Bustronome – London

If you think you’ve already visited some of the most beautiful monuments, squares, avenues and landmarks of the cultural capital that is London – think again! Tiernan Travel introduces to you a new restaurant and sightseeing concept that transports you on a journey around iconic London, allowing you to discover the most beautiful views whilst indulging in a unique gourmet experience.

Welcome to London, Bustronome!

Back in June, Tiernan Travel was kindly invited to dine aboard this innovative bus-restaurant that originated in Paris and evolved to our capital here in the UK earlier this year. As it’s not every day that you’re given the opportunity to experience a 6-course tasting dinner in a moving panoramic restaurant that literally brings London to your table, we accepted!

The three hour journey aboard this cleverly designed state-of-the-art double decker bus begins at Embankment where once seated you are warmly greeted with a glass of Champagne. This sets the tone for the rest of the evening – luxurious, attentive and despite witnessing the hustle and bustle of Friday night London, very much relaxed. You’re also presented with a map that shows each of the landmarks you will be passing alongside a bilingual audio pen that cleverly pairs with the map and essentially acts as your tour guide for the evening. By tapping the pen on a specific point of interest you’re able to discover interesting facts about that particular attraction allowing you to control your tour. If you want to listen to the audiopen you can or alternatively you can just enjoy the food in front of you and the sights around you. Half the time, we actually forgot we had food in front of us. Somehow, even though you’ve seen these London spectacles before (and probably more than once) you can’t help feeling mesmerised by them, like you’re seeing them for the first time all over again! No matter what the weather, up to 38 diners can enjoy this experience in total comfort under the buses’ beautiful glass roof which gives a 360 view at all times, no matter where you’re sat.

The food served on this voyage gourmand is refined, seasonal and British inspired with a French twist – Bustronome was born in the world’s food capital after all. A starter of Mushroom Soup with Whipped Truffle Cream was served as we approached the beautiful St. Pauls. We indulged in Scallop Carpaccio with Spinach Shoot Vinaigrette, Fennel and Pomegranate whilst passing The Shard and crossing Tower Bridge. We tucked into a delicious twist on traditional Fish and Chips as we passed the London Eye, The Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey, just as the sun started to set on what could only be described as a glorious evening. Roasted Lamb Fillet with Mint Jus, Parsnip Puree and Beurre Noisette was dished up as we headed past Trafalgar Square, through Piccadilly Circus and travelled towards Knightsbridge as the dusk began to fall. We carried on past Hyde Park Corner, Hyde Park Barracks, The Royal Albert Hall, The Natural History Museum, The Victoria and Albert Museum before double backing on ourselves past Harrods, The Ritz and Fortnum and Mason whilst indulging in the second to last course of creamy Stilton with Apricots and a Port Reduction. Finally, we began heading back to Embankment whilst savouring the last plate on this gastronomic journey of Apple Confit, Hazelnut Crumble and Granny Smith Sorbet. Quite the menu and quite the sightseeing experience to say the least!

Bustronome is picture-perfect date night material, a unique experience to enjoy with loved-ones and a different way to do business. From the moment you step on-board you begin to embrace London from a whole new perspective! It’s an elegant and magical journey and one we recommend you embark on!
